Due to the extension of the internet from desktops to laptops to portable devices to cell phones, the net is now at everyone’s fingertips almost all the time. And the net is now where people go when they want to go out for pizza, or out shopping for widgets.</p>
<p>The response rate of users of local searches is tremendous, because we’re not talking here about people who are inspired by an unsolicited email to go buy a new widget. Rather, this group is actively searching for providers of goods and services because they’re interested in buying those goods and services immediately. How do you tap in?</p>
<p><strong>Get Present</strong></p>
<p>Since we’re talking about people who search for local businesses, then all you need to do is work with those local search engines, right? Wrong. Customers will get a list of businesses from such a search. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://visualartistics.com"></a></p><p>In my experience, I have found that using images on my website is an effective way to improve the position my site claims on a list of websites generated by different search engines.  The key to making this happen, I’ve learned, is for me to search-optimize my images.</p>
<p><strong>File Type</strong></p>
<p>For instance, my images are either a .jpg or .gif file which increases the likelihood that a search engine will rank the pictures more favorably compared to other file types.</p>
<p><strong>Titles, Headings, and Captions</strong></p>
<p>I also use relevant keywords in the titles I give an image to improve the picture’s ranking.  I’ve had luck using bold print in the headings I assign to an image and using the exact term someone would type to find my image as the language for the heading.  When preparing a caption for an image, I use meaningful keywords at the beginning of the caption instead of using single words or short phrases as I would in a heading.</p>
<p><strong>Size</strong></p>
<p>Finally, I use images that are between 100 x 100 and 1200 x 1200 in size because search engines seem to rank them more favorably than they do pictures that are either smaller or larger.  On occasion, I use a thumbnail to link to a larger picture than the one I have on my website so my image will be ranked higher than it would be otherwise.</p>
