Digital or Offset Printing

While there are advantages and disadvantages to both types of printing, the two things that should factor most heavily into your choice of one over the other are your budget and timeline.

What Is Digital Printing?

Compared to offset printing, digital printing is a more recently developed printing technique.  It is a way to transfer a digital image onto a surface without the use of a printing plate.  Digital printing applies an image directly onto almost any kind of surface, including paper, clothing material, and glass, in other words.

What Is Offset Printing?

By contrast, offset printing uses a traditional printing plate to transfer an image to a rubber mat or blanket before the image is applied to a surface such as paper.

Comparison of Digital and Offset Printing

Currently, digital printing tends to be more cost effective for most companies looking to complete a small-to-medium-sized printing project, but is usually more expensive for businesses that need large volumes of printed materials.  In general, digital printing tends to be faster than offset printing as well because digital printing can yield printed materials on-demand.
